The day after Thanksgiving, Yarmouth opened up its season with a trip to Bangor for an early pre-season set of scrimmages. These games gave the coaching staff an opportunity to mix lines and further evaluate many of the younger players.

Yarmouth 5 v. Poland/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester/Leavitt 4
On Saturday, December 2nd, Yarmouth hosted Poland/Oak Hill/Gray-New Gloucester/ Leavitt in a game that felt very much like a regular season tilt as both teams stepped up their physical play.
The opening period was a disaster for the Clippers as they were out-worked and out-played in all facets of the game. Poland took an easy 3-0 lead into the locker room after one period. Yarmouth finally woke up in the second period as a shot from Youseff Ayad deflected off a Poland stick and popped up over the Poland netminder to get the Clippers on the board. Dominic Morrill ’18 and Kurt Heywood were credited with the assists.
A few minutes after Yarmouth’s opening goal, Defenseman Jacob Veilleux ’20 was driven hard into the end boards from behind and the Clippers took full advantage of the five-minute major penalty.
On the ensuing power play, Dominic Morrill scored the first goal with an assist from Kurt Heywood and Spencer King ’20 picked up the second tally off a nice pass from Cooper May ’18. Morrill was credited with the secondary assist on King’s goal. However, Yarmouth’s lead was short-lived as Poland jumped into the lead a few minutes later when the puck ended up behind Dan Latham followed a scrum in the slot.
In the third period, the Clippers came alive and finally began to move the puck effectively. Joe Truesdale (Morrill) tied up the game with a highlight reel goal and John Decker ’18 scored the game winner off a beautiful pass from Cooper May that found Decker all alone in front of the Poland net.
Yarmouth opens up its regular season on Wednesday December 13th when they host York–last year’s Class B South Champion. Game time is 7:10 pm.
