Despite outshooting Brunswick 30-21 and having a significant edge in puck possession, Yarmouth had to settle for a 2-2 tie in their opening game of season. The Clippers head to Kents Hill School to take on Maranacook this Tuesday, December 13th at 7:20 pm.

Yarmouth started slow and seemed to have difficulty getting untracked as Brunswick clogged the middle of the ice and took away Yarmouth’s offensive advantage.  The first period was a desultory offering as neither team showed much fire.

In the second period, Cooper May fired a bad angle shot to set up a rebound for Chris Romano who fired home the opening goal.  Dom Morrill was credited with the secondary assist.  However, Brunswick tied up the game less than a minute later and the teams went into the locker room  even.

At 8:14 into the third period, Captain Owen Ramsay fired a shot from the point that found the top corner, which gave Yarmouth the lead, but it would not hold up.  While on the power play, a miscue at the blue-line lead to a Brunswick breakaway and a short-handed goal with only 2:28 remaining in regulation.

With the game tied, the teams went to an eight-minute sudden-death overtime, but the Clippers could not find their scoring touch.  Late in the overtime, Defenseman Sam Marjerison was driven into the end-boards, which led to a five-minute major penalty and power play for the remaining 2:58 of the game.  However, Yarmouth could not find the back of the net and the Clippers had to settle for a tie.

Michael Guertler, Will Giese and Spencer King made their Varsity debut for the Clippers and played well.  For full media coverage of the game, please click on the links below:
