The Junior Varsity Boys capped a Cinderella season with an exciting 4-3 victory over Windham/Westbrook to win the Wakelin Cup Championship in the Casco Bay Junior Varsity Hockey League. Senior Will Landry finished his high school career with a victory lap around Casco Bay Arena with the Cup.


Despite struggling during the regular season, Yarmouth caught fire during the playoffs with impressive wins over Portland/Deering and Cape Elizabeth to reach the Championship Game. However, Windham/Westbrook took control early and led 2-0 until midway through the second period when Dom Morrill picked up a goal to cut the lead in half. Matt Sanborn was credited with the assist.

Coach Calder’s squad then reeled off two more unanswered goals from Joe Coyne (Morrill) and Erik Salmon (Caulfield) to take a 3-2 lead, but Windham/Westbrook was not going to make it easy.
In the last minute of the second period, Windham/Westbrook scored and the teams went into the final stanza tied 3-3.
It looked like the game would go into overtime, but with 2:37 remaining, Dom Morrill capped an end-to-end rush with a blistering top corner shot for the game-winning goal. Goaltender Greg Kamra played in an incredible game in net and was credited with the assist on Morrill’s goal.

In the final minutes, Windham/Westbrook pressed, but the Clippers were up to the task and held on to win the Wakelin Cup. The game was emblematic of their season. Despite falling behind, the Clippers never gave up and battled back for the victory.
