The Greely Rangers came into Saturday’s game in a must-win situation and the Clippers just managed to get by the Rangers for the victory and a pleasant ending to Senior Night. Bill Jacobs’ power play goal with 2:50 remaining in the game secured the win for Yarmouth and capped a three-goal comeback from a 3-1 deficit.

In the first period, Greely served notice that they came to play a physical game and they took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal when Colby Williams deflected Ryan Sullivan’s blast from the blue line.
In the second period, Bill Jacobs evened the score on a power play goal with assists from Chris Romano and Patrick Grant, but Greely took the lead back 23 seconds later when Ryan Megathlin (Gervais) found the back of the net.

At 3:59 into the third period, Greely extended the lead to two goals on an unassisted tally from Nathan Gervais and Yarmouth found itself in a difficult situation. However, less than 2 minutes later, Cooper May redirected a shot from Owen Ramsay to cut the lead in half and Patrick Grant then tied up the game with just under 7 minutes to play. Chris Romano picked up the secondary assist on May’s goal, and Walter Conrad and May picked up the assists on the tying goal.

With two unanswered goals, the momentum finally began to swing in favor of Yarmouth and a power play late in the game set the stage for Jacobs’ game-winning tally. With 2:50 remaining, Jacobs took a pass from Walter Conrad, skated across the blue line and cut to the middle to blast a low snap shot that beat Greely netminder Joe MacDonald on his stick side. In the final minutes, the Clippers kept Greely bottled up in their zone, which prevented them from pulling MacDonald for a 6th skater.

Prior to the game, Senior Night ceremonies were held in which the families of Walter Conrad, Patrick Grant, Noah Grondin, Will Landry, and Erik Salmon were honored. This year’s success is due to the outstanding Senior leadership both on the ice and in the locker room.
